What IF...
With all the Pope excitement going on and discussion of various religious doctrines these days, creative writing was my way to deal with my old spiritual questions for which nobody has an answer - and neither do I.
This poem is dedicated to Pope Benedict XVI:
What if God was Fe-Male?
If God was fe-male,
… Adam might have come out of Eve’s womb like the rest of us
… Saint Peter would be Petra, and San Juan a Juanita
… Maria Magdalena - a drag queen dancing in a gay bar
… Jesus, the beloved child of God and Mary,
… God and Mary, a lesbian couple not able to get married
… In-vitro-fertilization would explain the virgin Maria’s pregnancy
… and Joseph was Maria’s hetero husband in a triangle relationship
... Jesus remained their only child because Maria used condoms
… the churches listened to HER as their shepherd
… and priests would not be allowed to bless the weapons,
… the weapons that would kill Godmother's kids on the battlefield.
… and SHE would cry like a girl, and nobody would call HIM a girlieman
… this beautiful whole of all colors and shapes and genders
… gracefully walking the eternal streets of peace
... never leaving the paths of respect
... holding hands with the universe,
... with Belfast’s mothers, Africa's sisters, Iraqi daughters
... and Dr. King Jr., Ghandi, Buddha, and Mohammed,
....they would walk among them.
Wouldn’t it be great if God was fe-male
male and fe - an X and an Y, Yin and Yang
just like Tina the Trani
or maybe God is all that and even more
and we just refuse to see, can't read, don't listen?

Well, how do we know that God isn't female?
One of my wife's favorite pins to piss off conservatives says, "I asked God, and she's Pro-Choice."

That's what I am saying. God has got a gender by the male dominated society and now this Polish piano teacher comes in my office and tells me that women should not be priests because it is "not the role of a woman." She inspires me to write right now :-)

Oh, okay. I thought you were saying things would be different if God were female. Missed the last line.
