Killing Rain

I went to Keppler's in Menlo Park to attend Barry Eisler's presentation of his newest book, "Killing Rain", Hank had invited on his blog. I was curious to meet the author. I could not imagine myself being delighted by a book that features a professional assassin as hero or an author who himself had worked for the CIA. I have to say, a positive surprise waited for me. Eisler has a very winning, symphathetic and warm personality. He greeted every visitor with handshake. When he started reading, I was amazed. The paragraph he chose was funny and introduced Rain as a humorous, smart man who also tries not to hurt his best and only friend, a sniper who once saved his life. Yes, the author as well as Rain are "real guys" not to say machos but in a pleasant way. I did not buy the book yesterday because I wanted to digest my impressions first. Today I am pretty sure that I will give "Killing Rain" a try.
I should mention that I felt like attending a special south bay blogger meeting with Hank, Elke, David, and me being present.

My wife and I saw Barry last night in Corte Madera.

He graciously learned the names of everyone in the audience. He even snapped my picture with his Treo 650 (same cellphone/pda I have).

If John Rain were outgoing, and forced to speak at public events, I have a feeling he'd be introducing himself to everyone, getting their names, checking their "vibe" to see if they represented a threat.

Coincidence? :)

Yup. You nailed it. This is NOT a coincidence :-).
