We Eat Therefore We Hunt

I think this Alaskan hockey mom who gives feminists extreme headaches exactly nailed the difference between conservative and liberal thinking in her statement, " We eat therefore we hunt."

The liberal approach to this subject would be, " We eat therefore we expect the goverment to hunt and deliver a fair share of meat/tofu to our door."

To have economic and social sound politics, however, we all need to be committed to hunt which means we need to keep the incentive to hunt so that we can then share with those who can't catch anything and would starve otherwise such as children and elderly. If we all stop hunting it won't work. If we all stop sharing, it won't work either. If we exploit the hunters to a point where it is not desirable to hunt anymore or if we destroy the hunting environment, we will jeopardize our existence.

So easy is that - balanced cavemen politics that does not require ivy league membership, just common sense.

This colorful cocktail showed up on our table at The Stinking Rose in San Francisco. After all, we are from Gilroy and that counts in garlic paradise of which the chef, Andrea Froncillo, will act as on judge in the grand Garlic Festival cook-off in our hood this weekend.

We celebrated Clay's 51st birthday by escaping babysitting and home chores for two nights and three days in San Francisco.

The King Tut exhibit at the De Young Museum was number one on our to-do-list. We got tickets without reservation for the tour that started 10 minutes after our arrival. That was luck. Nevertheless, we stood in line for a while until they opened the doors. The line experience is comparable to going on a roller coaster ride in Disneyland - just that bad, yes.

Inhaling all kinds of invigorating aromas in the fragrance corner of the Botanical Garden and visiting the Edible Expedition in the Conservatory of Flowers were high up on our adventure list as well. We spend an entire day in Golden Gate Park this way. Now I know that there is a Chocolate Pudding plant growing in Mother Nature and how Cardamom looks and Spanish Lavender smells.

All in all this trip was utmost fun including our stay at Hotel Tomo in Japantown. A killer view over San Francisco and the Peace Tower from the 7th floor, see pic below, Japanese Anime as mural painted in the room, very comfortable and friendly Ikea style Futons to sleep in, giant bean bags to sit on, free wireless, an iPod docking station on the Alarm clock, a flatscreen TV in the room and a vending machine in the lobby to buy giant robot T-shirts - all to a very moderate rate. What more can a traveller ask for?

We did have a very creative toddler cowgirl watching us and therefore all had utmost weekend fun at Lemo's Farm in Half Moon Bay as you can see on the pictures below.

Woodstock

We opened this loooong patriotic weekend with watching the four hour long documentary of a true piece - peace of American history: The Woodstock Festival. Btw. do you know that Bob Dylan turned down the offer to perform at Woodstock, I quote "because of his disgust of the hippies hanging around his house." I also noticed that a whole bunch of people there were wearing crosses and Jesus stickers which today is considered uncool, closed minded, anti gay and conservative. Change has come here, that's for sure. Jesus Christ is not a Superstar anymore. Song number two in my July 4th tunes live from the farm followed by my favorite version of the national anthem:

Watcha Gonna Do

Thursday is the new Friday. Until after Labor Day, I won't work Fridays. It's called summer schedule, and I love it. Although, a 10 hour day, Monday through Thursday, is pretty exhausting. Anyway, what I wanted to ask is what's up for the weekend? A walk to the Gilroy fireworks of course and yes, they will happen because Gilroy is faced with two alternatives only: having 10 illegal dangerous fireworks allover the city or having one big legal event in the Christmas Park. I think it is a wise decision to have a public firework and not following San Jose's example to cancel it. No firework is not an option for the Gilroyals. Our two dogs will disagree, they hate it. No walkie for them. My granddaughter will be the only one joining us. This reminds me to mix up my 2009 4th of July songs. Below is the first one that comes to my mind in the midst of all the destructive trouble. Have a happy 4th y'all!
